Allow pupils to carry cellphones to school

-

Madam,

7here is an ongoing debate on whether school-going children should be allowed to carry their cellphones to school or not. One strongly believes that learners should be allowed to carry these gadgets with them to school because the reasons in favour of this side of the argument far outweigh those advanced by dissenters.

$s a starting point, one must mention that cellphones have become an essential part of our life. 7his, therefore, makes it almost impossible for all of us to lead a single day without these gadgets. +ow do we e[pect our children to lead normal lives at school if we deprive them of the opportunity to make use of this essential device" $dditionally, cellphones can be used as an essential educational tool. With a cellphone, for e[ample, pupils can easily access educational websites, research materials and even take part in interactive lessons. ,n addition, this would allow our schools to implement programmes like *oogle &lassroom, which can be accessed through a cellphone, with ease.

Moreover, allowing pupils to carry their cellphones to school can help ensure their safety. ,n the case of an emergency, cellphones can be used to Tuickly contact emergency services or alert teachers of any suspicious activity. 7his arrangement would also enable parents to communicate with their children from time to time and promptly attend to any situation posing a threat to the safety of their children.

Dissenters would argue that allowing pupils to carry cellphones to school would cause unnecessary disturbances during lessons. +owever, they fail to reason that this new arrangement would not mean that the pupils would be granted permission to use these gadgets anytime and anyhow. ,nstead, schools would introduce new policies to regulate cellphone use within the school premises.

,n summation, it is clear that allowing pupils to carry their cellphones to school would come with great educational benefits to the learners. ,n light of this, one therefore insists that pupils should be allowed to carry their cellphones to school.
