More Turkiye scholarshi­ps coming

LUDZIDZINI – The Government of Turkiye has committed to provide more scholarshi­ps and job opportunit­ies for Eswatini students.

This was also announced by His Majesty King Mwasi III during the press briefing held at Ludzidzini Royal Residence yesterday. The King acknowledg­ed that there were already Eswatini students pursuing their education in Turkiye, he however revealed that the Turkiye President, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, assured that more scholarshi­ps were on their way for local students. He said this would allow more emaSwati to gain experience as well as provide more job opportunit­ies.

On another note, Eswatini and Turkiye have signed bilateral agreements to promote trade and create investment opportunit­ies. His Majesty said the recent visit to Turkiye for the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) yielded more benefits for Eswatini as a number of agreements were signed between the two countries.

He announced that one of the agreements was that of setting a trade target for trade between the two nations. “Currently trade between the two countries is at USD1.5 million (E27 million), however the target is that within the next three years, trade between the countries should be more than US$5 million (about E95 million),” he said.

He said Turkiye had a large population of over 100 million and was already a first world country with good infrastruc­ture.

He said the two countries already have agreements and programmes on the ground and revealed that the target was to improve the relations between the two countries. He said the two countries have also agreed to sign an agreement between both countries’ chambers of commerce to facilitate investment opportunit­ies and export.

His Majesty the King said Turkiye had advanced a lot over the years particular­ly in the science and technology field. “They have many Hi-tech industries and have agreed to assist Eswatini in that regard. They also agreed to send a team to facilitate the agreements,” he said.

The King further mentioned that the Turkiye Government has also expressed interest in African handicraft and already have programmes with other countries. He said the agreements would open market opportunit­ies for the local handicraft sector where they could export their roducts.
