MBABANE – He was simply unstoppable. This is the story of MTN National First Division (NFD) outfit Lozitha Spurs player Mkhuleko Mamba, who excelled in the short distances for his school Elangeni High. This was during the Eswatini Schools Sports Association (ESSA) Mbabane Branch athletics competition, which was held at the Prince of Wales Sports Ground on Thursday. His exploits were however, not enough for Elangeni as they occupied the bottom spot in the five schools table that participated in this year’s edition. Mamba

OTHER PUPILS IN THEIR OWN WORDS:

Mzwandile Simelane (Ka-Schiele High)

“I am happy about my performance and the race was good. I used to take roadblocks three times a week, which I think helped me a lot to enhance my performance today. We are also lucky to have teacher Mavikane as he pushes us to the limit.”

Nomcwasho Masilela (Nsukumbili High)

“This was a tough race, but I am happy that I prevailed as I came out on top. We trained five times and this really helped us, I am working towards getting a club so that I can take my career further.”

Susan Dlamini (Ka-Schiele High) “I really performed very well today; was unstoppable as he showed his counterparts a clean pair of heels in the 100m open, 400m open, as well as the winner in the 4x400m for his school.

He however, decried the fact that even though he performed exceptionally well in the categories he was participated in, lack of training was the major downfall for his school in the competition.

“I am very happy about my performance even though we only trained a day for this event. I would like to urge our head teachers to give us enough time for sports as it helps to distress and mingle as pupils from the country,” Mamba said. He further said even though he was a soccer player, his dream now is to join an athletics club so that he could represent the country in international competitions.

Nomile Tshapile (Londunduma

High)

“I am excited to show them a clean pair of heels; it shows that our training helped us a lot. I love this sport and I am looking forward to continuing with it as it might secure me a job in future.”

Training

it wasn’t a hard race all thanks to our teacher Mavikane who encourages us to take athletics seriously.”

Londiwe Shiba (Woodlands High)

“I love athletics, I don’t care even though I came out position seven. In actual facts I was nervous and I doubted myself as we didn’t have enough time to prepare.”
