Women National Sports Day around the corner

-

SUNDAY greetings! We take this time to wish all four Ingwenyama Cup semi-finalists the best of luck in today’s crunch games, which are slated for the Somhlolo National Stadium. It is fair play we want to see. Remember, no matter how high the stakes are, at the end of the day, this is still just a sport. We are always delighted to share the latest from the sports mother body, which is the Eswatini Sport and Recreation Council (ESRC).

As stated in previous columns, Shukuma Eswatini mass participation outreach programme is not the only programme we run here, no. We have a number of them that include the Coaches Development Training, Sports Administration Training and Technical Officials Training, which are all under the Capacity Development. We also have the Talent Identification and Youth Development High Performance Programme, which features the Excellence and Elite Programme. It also features the Antidoping Programme. We also have the National Sports Rewards Programme, whose banner houses the National Sports Awards and the Podium Finishers Incentives.

Under the Mass Participation Programme, we have the popular Shukuma Eswatini outreach programme, the Disability Sports Programme and the Women in Sport Programme. We are hosting the National Women Sports Day on April 6 at the Somhlolo National Stadium. The National Women Sports Day is a festival that seeks to celebrate women’s participation in sports. It seeks to foster gender equity in terms of ensuring that our young girls and women also enjoy the intrinsic and extrinsic benefits that are inherent through participation in sports. We have said it before that this is a platform that most importantly endures to dispel negative myths about women’s participation in sports and of course, to break barriers for seamless participation of the girl child in sports. We are there offering companies and corporates the rare opportunity of being part of what should be a historical day. Interested companies can register women employees for participation in any of the following organised activities;

10km and 5km run

Seven-A-side football

Netball

Beach Volleyball

Registration shall be by way of donation of any of the following items:

Sanitary pads

School shoes

Blankets and any other thoughtful CSI donations. The donated items shall be distributed to various rural communities around the country during our Shukuma outreach activities, to which the companies that donated shall be invited. We are looking forward to hearing from companies, as they partner with the winning team.

Following the tremendous success of our last three or rather first three Shukuma Eswatini outreach programmes this year, the next stop will be the Timphisini Inkhundla in the Hhohho Region. Remember, the first was hosted by the Manzini South Inkhundla in the Manzini Region, obviously. The second was hosted by the Dvokodveni Inkhundla, before the last, which was hosted in the Shiselweni Region by Sandleni Inkhundla. Our dynamic team is looking forward to yet another spectacular outing in the Hhohho Region. As always, the next one is always better than the last. The people of Timphisini and surrounding areas will be treated to a spectacular programme not seen in recent times. We always strive to improve our delivery of the programme with each passing outing. Shukuma has obviously evolved to become a premium platform for mass public engagement. It is our desire to see a healthy nation and it is our quest to develop our nation through quality sports and recreation activities. It is who we are.

Until next week; sports for all; sport for life!
