Reynolds commends Eswatini rugby talent

MBABANE – Eswatini Rugby Union (ERU) Head of Development Coach Steve Reynolds expressed satisfaction with the turnout during the national team selection process held yesterday at the Supply Centre in Mbabane.
Reynolds was part of the panel responsible for selecting the Hhohho team that would represent the region in the national team selection process.
The Eswatini Rugby Union has been organising a national series since last year, featuring Under-23, Under-18, and girls’ categories, with the goal of identifying the best players from across the country. Coaches from various regions were present at the selection event, working alongside the ERU Head of Development to scout talent and assemble a strong national team.
The union coach said the collaborative effort aimed at providing opportunities for Eswatini’s most promising rugby players, to compete at the national level and showcase their skills on the international stage.
“The impressive turnout and potential displayed by the players during the selection process is a positive sign for the future of rugby in Eswatini. However, it is important to remember that many of these players are still young and relatively new to the sport, requiring a strong foundation in the basics of rugby.
“The focus now is on identifying individuals with potential and providing them with additional coaching to further develop their skills. This specialised training will go beyond the regular day-to-day coaching at the centres, ensuring that the selected players receive the guidance and support necessary to excel in the sport and contribute to the growth of rugby in Eswatini.” he said.

The Sizeze Coach revealed that the ERU plans to divide the country into three regions and will conduct two more selection sessions in Manzini and Luve. This approach aims to ensure a comprehensive search for talent across the nation and provide opportunities for skilled players from various regions to be considered for the national team.
“We want to see as many athletes from around the country as possible, so that we can select the best talent available to form a development team. Our goal is to nurture these players and provide them with the necessary training and support to eventually become national team players. By expanding our search for potential rugby talent, we aim to create a strong and sustainable rugby programme in Eswatini that can compete at both the domestic and international levels,” he added.
