The lost Eswatini youth

- Helder Chembeni

Sir,

The youth has a very huge role to play in church. The youth of God has gone lost and has turned out to devalue their roles in the church. Work in the church should be done willingly without expecting something in return. This is what most youths don’t want to entertain; they volunteer and are most willing to do things they know would reward them quickly. Some rewards are to be achieved in the after life.

The youth of our days find it embarrassing to remain behind after services to clean the church, to go evangelise and win souls; to be active and invest their free time doing something in the church. Instead, they prefer gadgets, social media and waste time best from what it could be used to honour God.

Maturity

A lot of youths do not want to or aren’t able to give out tithes and offerings. A youth that has reached maturity knows the difference of good and sin. It is important for them to be baptised, but many know about baptism but don’t do it. They don’t honour their parents and want to live life in a way that pleases them. “Honour your father and your mother so that your days may be long in the land that the Lord your God is giving you,” says Exodus 20: 12.

In simple words, they recognise Jesus and what is written in the Bible but they don’t fully believe in Him and don’t follow what is written. Yet they also want to be saved and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. It is important for them to note that salvation isn’t a joke. Put God first and believe in Him; honour Him for He is the Lord.

It is said that the future is in the hands of the youth. If today’s youth is not complying to the Word of God then tomorrow’s youth could be worse. To the youth; do not just fight for your goals and dreams in this world; remember most importantly to fight for your spiritual life.

The devil wants you down but hold on tight to the Lord. We are in a war, always know Proverbs 20: 29, which says: “The glory of young men is their strength, grey hair is the splendour of the old.” So use your strength to honour the Lord and do what is right.
