Equestrian star sends E0.8m SOS
MBABANE – An equestrian show jumper, Khetsiwe James, is reaching out for support to realise her dream of competing in the 2026 Youth Olympic Games (YOG26).
She needs E897 000 from May 2024 to December 2025 to participate in the global event. James stands out as the only liSwati citizen and the sole black equestrian from Eswatini in her age group selected for the YOG26 Africa Identification Programme. Her mother, Kerry, emphasises that sponsorship is not just financial support, but an investment in the transformative power of sports.
“Sponsors will gain visibility at all of Khetsiwe’s competitions and through her social media presence, reaching audiences locally, regionally and internationally,” she said. Khetsiwe’s journey to YOG26 includes a series of milestones and competitions to qualify for the Africa Identification Programme.
She currently competes in the junior classes for 14 to 18-yearolds and holds impressive rankings in the Mpumalanga Province Show Jumping Junior 1.20-metre class and the South African Youth Team Junior 1.00 metre class for 2023.
Support
To continue her representation of Eswatini at YOG26, Khetsiwe needs support in show jumping.
Tragically, the horse purchased for Khetsiwe’s training has passed away. “She has been leasing horses temporarily, turning this challenge into a learning opportunity,” her mother further said. The family is open to various forms of sponsorship, including monthly contributions, one-time donations, branded riding gear and social media management assistance. Those willing to help can reach out to Kerry James on +268 7681 3595.
