Question: Is a work permit needed when you want to act in South Africa?

Answer: Becky Castings replied, citing that a passport is enough if one is looking to pursue an acting role in SA. They said that the passport is ideal for making a tax number as well as other documents that may require personal details.

Question: Are visual arts incorporat­ed into acting, including fashion?

Answer: The panel agreed that visual artists and fashion designers are used during acting for costumes and visual representa­tion.

Question: Is there a warehouse that can be made available in Eswatini where local artists can conduct film and music production?

Answer: ENCAC CEO Stanle Dlamini replied, citing that people should make use of the regional arts centres that are currently operating in Piggs Peak, Siteki, Lubombo, Shiselweni and Manzini.

His remarks emphasised the importance of playing local content on national broadcast mediums. “The acting and film production industry has grown over the years, and Eswatini is also one country that is taking film production seriously. There are quite a number of films that I know were produced in the country, but the problem is that they do not get played on local mediums, so people do not know them.

In Nigeria, all the national television stations play local films and series. This can also work for Eswatini; the cinemas and television stations have to play local films for the profession to be recognised and monetised. The government should invest in film and further establish film courses that should be learned in schools so that people can master the skill at a young age,” Mike said.
