MANZINI- The National Maize Corporation (NMC) says the country has suffered a major setback with the demise of its Chief Finance Officer (CFO) Shirley Motsa.

Motsa tragically passed away last Saturday morning while jogging along the Manzana Road in Mbabane.

She was knocked down by a truck, whose driver, Stephen Shuping has been charged with culpable homicide and drink-driving.

Speaking at the deceased’s memorial service, NMC Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mavela Vilane said Shirley was a great asset to the company.

“It is sad that she is already gone within just 12 months and two days after her employment, without having also celebrated her achievements,” Vilane said.

“In the financial year that we are ending March 31, NMC has made profits of about E20 million, which could be attributed to her hard work and dedication,” Vilane stated.

SUFFERING

The CEO said Shirley was able to resuscitate the economy of the company after suffering an economic downturn during the 2017/18 financial year.

He estimated the loss to have been around E20 million.

“The changes she made in the company were unbelievable.

We’ve lost a giant and she left her legacy.

“I can say we’re going to feel her absence, although we’re going to fill up her vacant post,” Vilane further said.

Among other accomplishments by the deceased was negotiating a deal between Pick n Pay Stores recently before she died.

The CEO described her as someone who put other people first and said her team was always happy working with her.

She was also described as a passionate employee, whose legacy will serve as an inspiration to others.

WORKED

Besides NMC, Shirley had also worked at the Eswatini Environmental Authority as CFO as well as at Small Enterprise Development Company (SEDCO).

Motsa, who was well-known in the sports fraternity, was laid to rest this morning in Siteki.

“I can say we’re going to feel her absence, although we’re still going to fill up her vacant post.”
