Ringing the line of success

- BY MXOLISI DLAMINI

THIS weekend we shine the light on Manzini Region Miss Cultural Heritage winner Nowethu Motsa. She is a young, kind, humble and elegant jewel who loves modelling and is into fashion. According to her, the two professions are inseparable and it helps her develop a strong sense of her personal style. She further describes herself as a compassionate, friendly, caring person who is stylish.

She recently partnered with Oukitel which is a smartphone brand that has been just introduced in the kingdom, where she was promoting the brand.

QUIZZED

During a meet and greet with the Gcwala team, she was quizzed on how it felt to win the Miss Cultural Heritage crown for Manzini Region. She highlighted that it was a great feeling which left her amazed. “I felt honoured and grateful since it is such a n amazing accomplishment and I’m thrilled to represent culture in such a positive way. I feel like this is also a great opportunity to promote diversity and understanding among people from all different backgrounds. “I didnt know I was going to win because all the girls were outstanding, as we were all unique in our own way.

“I had told myself that no matter what the outcome self-confidence and self-love are much more important than winning after all, however God came through for me,” she said.

She went on to reveal her ambitions while occupying the throne, citing that she wants to use the platfom to promote diversity.

“My ambition is to use the platform to promote the values of diversity, inclusion and understanding.

“I also want to use the opportunity to encourage others to be proud of their unique cultures and identities and to appreciate the diversity of the world around them,” Motsa said.

REFLECTED

She also reflected on how being involved in a car accident almost took her shine when she was younger.

“Getting into car accident when I was eight years old, made me feel less confident with myself since my arm got hurt and left me with a terrible scar. “A s I

grew up I just told myself that I’m lucky because other people get car accidents and die, others come out with a disability and here I am no one would even notice that I once got it,” she said. When asked about some of the women that inspire her, she cited an international model who is widely celebrated in the international industry.

“Linda Hutchinson, simply because she serves as a role model for other young girls who might not have had the same opportunities and she’s well educated which means she has proven that even if you’re talented in something it is also important to take your education seriously, because it is the main key to success,” she said. The kingdom is currently facing a rise in genderbased violence (GBV) cases.

As a culture oriented woman, she was asked on how she can use her platform to advocate for the fight against GBV. “Genderbased violence is a mojor problem in many cultures and communities around the world and it’s crucial to find ways to fight it.

“As a culture oriented women I would use culture itself as a tool for fighting GBV, this could involve using traditional and cultural values to promote gender-equality and non-violence, using art, music and storytelling to raise awareness and inspire change,” she said.
