THIS week the team took time to review local songstress Sarnilo. Local based singer, songwriter, rapper and poet, Sarnilo, is best known for her captivating lyrics, versatility and eclectic music.
Her smooth and soulfilled raps, soothingly toned voice as well as her new school Afro-centric style are a few of the energies she exudes in studio and on stage. Her new ‘Chifunilo’ EP topped Apple Music charts in South Africa
Sarnilo’s Extended Playlist (EP) ‘Chifunilo’ topped Apple Music charts upon release. She topped musicians such as Burna Boy and Spirit of Praise. Burna Boy’s newly released album titled ‘I told them’ took the second spot in the Apple Music charts, Spirit of Praise Volume 9 took the third spot, and trapper Cloudy Manteen’s latest release titled ‘Trap Museum’ took the fourth spot.
She has worked with award-winning musicians
Sarnilo has worked with international producers Aramboa, Moonchild Sanelly, Austrian/Peruvian singer and songwriter GAVRIELA and a host of stellar Swati artists such as Mzwaa, Velemseni, Qibho and Tendaness, where she is featured on his album with the leading single titled
‘Too Late’.
She is a bi-cultural artist
Sarnilo, being a bi-cultural artist, uses her diverse background to influence her song writing and singing style. Born of a Malawian mother and Swati father she uniquely incorporates both siSwati and Chichewa in her music.
She topped Nasty C and Cassper Nyovest on HYPE magazine charts
This achievement was made possible by one of her songs that form part of the ‘Chifunilo’ EP. The song is titled ‘Hoodbrat’ and it was number one on HYPE magazine last year September. The second spot was claimed by South African Hip Hop musician Nasty C.
She is signed under Antidote Music
Sarnilo is an artist that is signed under a local record label which house musicians such as !Sooks. Antidote Music is a record label, artist management and music consultancy company with focus on Eswatini music.
She draws inspiration from internationally acclaimed female musicians
