... ESRC bids farewell to Shirley

-

MANZINI – “Shirley will be one of the awardees and she took pride in her dedication in sports.” These were the words of the Eswatini Sports and Recreation Council (ESRC) representative Nqobile Dlamini during the memorial service of the late seasoned cyclist Shirley Kenny-Motsa held at Our Lady of Assumption Cathedral in Manzini.

The processions of her memorial service took place from Dups Funeral Home in Manzini, where she was then escorted to the Cathedral church by other cyclists.

The sportswoman died in a tragic truck accident that happened a week ago around Manzana in Mbabane. The ESRC which is the mother body of sports in the country said they were shuttered by the untimely passing of Shirley, the Treasurer of Eswatini Cycling Association, which is their affiliate.

“As the ESRC we are really shuttered by the demise of Shirley we were still looking forward to working with her in the next upcoming years,” said Dlamini who spoke on behalf of the organisation.

She further mentioned that their mandate as a Council was to make people stay in shape and in good health.

“Our mandate as a council is ‘kushukumisa umtimba’ and make sure people are in shape as well as in good health. It saddens us as the council that our sports persons are getting killed in such a reckless manner, especially now that there is road safety awareness. We beseech the Road Safety Council to look into this, the safety of our people is our priority,” she added.

Meanwhile, Dlamini also highlighted that whenever the Eswatini Cycling Association (ECA) had an awarding ceremony Shirely would definitely be awarded as she took her pride and dedication in sports.

We would like to pass our condolences to her family, children, friends and colleagues. Find comfort in God and His Word, Psalms 34:18. God bless you all.
