This was relayed by Senate President Lindiwe Dlamini during the intern’s farewell in Parliament on Thursday. Dlamini introduced the guest of honour, former Republic of Colombia Senator, Apostle John Milton Rodriguez and his family to the departing interns.

She said one of the things government had done was the internship programme which was in collaboration with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) where interns were attached in different organisations.

“As Parliament, we received 19 of the interns and they have been doing an excellent job and this month is the end of their internship. I am aware that their internship was for a specific period but we asked for an extension which has finally come to an end,” she

said.

She, however, mentioned that based on the way they had applied themselves and learnt in their places of work, as well as the work culture they had adopted while in Parliament, she did not doubt they would excel wherever they eventually ended up.

The president revealed that all the interns would go through an interview and if there was an opportunity in Parliament for them to get employed, they would certainly get employed on a full time basis. Dlamini also mentioned that they would provide all the

interns who did not manage to get employed with letters of recommendation to the different organisations they may end up at.

“I do not doubt that they have learnt how it is to relate with people at the workplace and work with them. They have also learnt the real work environment which is different form tertiary life,” she said. She also introduced the former Colombian senator who also shared the word of God and prayed for the interns.

While praying, Rodriguez prayed for peace in the country

and prophesied that women such as the Senate President were a blessing and would foster peace and stability in the country. He said there were numerous possibilities of creating alliances between the two countries. He also shared that he was a God fearing man who valued and appreciated his family and the support they gave to him throughout the years.

The former senator encouraged the interns to put God first in their lives in order to achieve their goals and make a positive impact not only in their families but also in the country as a whole.
