It must bother them
Sir,
It is important for politicians to fully understand the essence of their task. It is important that they fully understand that they carry the aspirations of the people who voted them into office.
It is important that they fully understand that they have been elected to serve the nation and not to be served by the nation.
Honest
In crafting a new path for our nation, we need to be brutally honest in identifying the things that have driven us towards a dysfunctional State.
A paradigm shift would really send this country on a different trajectory. It is absurd that after over five decades of freedom, there have been no meaningful economic gains. At the time we attained our freedom, Mainland China was a nonentity in terms of economic standing and today it is well on its way to being the biggest economy in the world.
Understanding
This is not through magic, but it is purely a result of setting your priorities correctly and understanding by elected representatives that you ascended into political office not for your own benefit, but rather to serve the people who entrusted you with their votes.
It must bother them that after over five decades of freedom, the country is still reliant on Eskom for a huge percentage of our electricity require
ments. It must bother them that after over five decades of freedom we are still reliant on imports for our staple food.
It must surely bother them that a majority of the people don’t have access to clean water despite being blessed with rivers.
Bother
It must surely bother them that investors are shunning us like a leprosy inflicted body. It must surely bother them that government continues to pay salaries to idle employees who cannot do their work because of various reasons, some of which include government plant and equipment having no fuel.
It will take guts and humility to effectively address these challenges, but above all they need the political will to do so.
