MBABANE – Eswatini footballers and officials are expected to compete for gongs in the COSAFA awards.

This follows the introduction of the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) inaugural awards.

Taking place on April 19, 2024, at an undisclosed location, the awards gala aims to honour the top achievers for 2023, both on and off the field as per COSAFA official website.

Vision

COSAFA President Artur de Almeida e Silva, stated in a statement last Thursday morning that the association always had this vision.

“COSAFA has long envisaged having our own awards ceremony to pay tribute to those who continue to shine a positive light on the game in our region,” he said.

He further stressed that this was a way to highlight the achievements of not just players and coaches, but also those who lay the foundations for success with the hard work and dedication they put into the game.

“Southern Africa has long been an excellent leader on the continent. Together, we can continue to grow the game in the region by celebrating our accomplishments and serving as an inspiration to the next generation,” he added.

It is worth noting that local and international players should be taken into account as they are eligible to receive awards for their hard work during the previous year.

Eligible

It is said that COSAFA members’ associations, which are Angola, Botswana, Comoros, Eswatini, Lesotho, Madagascar, Malawi, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, the Seychelles, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe, have also declared that all players and coaches from those associations are eligible to win the prizes.

Meanwhile, a variety of lifetime achievement awards will also be presented to people who have influenced football in the area throughout the years.
