- BY MENGAMELI MABUZA

MBABANE – Former Mbabane Highlanders striker Kwadwo Frimpong will reportedly receive a salary of over E30 000 at his new Asian club, Regar-TadAZ.

This publication reported last week that the Ghanaian striker parted ways with the team after receiving an offer from the top division club playing in the Tajikistan Vysshaya Liga.

The Ghana-born striker joined Highlanders during the mid-season transfer window in January.

He reportedly accepted the offer from the Asian football club.

Frimpong initially signed with Highlanders after being transfer-listed by Shiselweni-based side Nsingizini Hotspurs at the beginning of the year, alongside notable players such as Tanaka Chinyahara, Njabulo Dlamini, and Siyabonga Shiba.

Interest

Frimpong’s move to Highlanders coincided with the signing of former DStv Premiership player Pentjie Zulu, who joined Highlanders despite interest from their traditional rivals, Mbabane Swallows.

According to a source, the player signed a oneyear season contract and was offered a salary of over US$15 000 with the season expected to start on Saturday in Asia.

When the publication contacted the player he said he was happy to sign for Regar-TadAZ which is a top team in Asia.

“I just want to first say that I’m really happy to play in Asia in a tougher league environment and I want to do well and help the team do well this season and I’m excited about the next project and I am looking forward to the first league game on Saturday against FC Khatlon,” he said.

Chance

The strong striker went on to thank Highlanders and Nsingizini for offering him the chance to play football in the Eswatini MTN Premier League.

“I just want to say a big thank you to everyone

in Eswatini from the supporters who have respect for another person and to both Nsingizini and Highlanders for the good reception that they showed me when I was playing for their teams and although on a personal level I, was not able to do well in terms of scoring goals, but I was happy with my overall contribution to both teams and I wish them the best of luck in the rest of the season,” he added.
