He said the soldiers’ work goes beyond the military mandate as it further entails augmenting government’s efforts in creating a resolute socio-economic environment for all emaSwati.

According to the King, the army’s contribution to the public of providing quality health services through its clinics is highly appreciated by the populace. He then congratulated the army for being awarded the ISO 9001 certification by the Eswatini Standards Authority.

“This is a true reflection of the high-quality services which you offer not only to soldiers, but also to the nation in general,” the King said. Furthermore, His Majesty said the military men’s continued vigilance along the borderline in curbing transnational crimes was commendable. This, he said boosts the economy of the kingdom by not allowing illegal goods to enter the country and evading paying tax.

He added that they were pleased that the army’s efforts were also recognised by the World Customs Organisation, as it awarded the UEDF with a certificate of merit for rendering exceptional service to the international customs community. Thus, he said was a good indication of the army’s good work.

Again, he said this recognition illustrated the army’s understanding of the fact that security was a pre-requisite for any form of development, especially border-security.

Once more, he said the army’s collaboration with other law enforcement agencies towards maintaining peace, stability and order in the Kingdom of Eswatini was praiseworthy. Therefore, he urged the military to continue working together in harmony with its sister security institutions.

“You need to uphold your oath of office at all times,” the King said.

He added that emaSwati live in a peaceful environment where the economy could thrive as there was a correlation between economic growth and stable security.

On another note, the King told the army that self-sustainability was important. Therefore, he encouraged the military to do more in the area of farming in order to ensure food security in the Kingdom of Eswatini. He also urged the defence force to conduct more research to establish which forms of farming or crops were suitable in order to be able to reap profits even under the climate change phenomenon.

The King said they acknowledge that the army was currently doing farming, but not in a large scale. In that regard, he said there was room for improvement, not only in this sphere, but in all the other defence industries.
