Don’t intimidate those working, striking staff ordered

MBABANE – Limkokwing University of Creative Technology (LUCT) employees who are on strike have been ordered not to intimidate their colleagues who are on duty.

The university and National Workers Union in Swaziland Higher Institutio­ns (NAWUSHI) also consented to an order that the employees on strike are to sing between 8am and 8:30am as well as at noon and 1:45pm.

They will further assembly in front of House No.2 and march to the gate and administra­tion block. The police are to assist in the enforcemen­t of the order. The order, which was granted by Industrial Court Judge Banele Ngcamphala­la by consent of the parties is final.

The employees want their demands to be met by the management of the university before they can return to work. They said their aim was not to disturb the university’s activities.

They tabled five demands to the university. They demands are cost-of-living-adjustment (CoLA), salary review, renewal of contracts for employees, allowances and notching.

Informed

In the university’s court applicatio­n, Campus Director Tfobile Gumede informed the court that the employees were taking part in the lawful strike action, in terms of the Industrial Relations Act, 2000.

The strike action commenced on April 2, 2024, after NAWUSHI had notified the university. Gumede said the university issued a notice locking out the members of the union.

She said the institutio­n placed conditions on the individual­s entering the premises and stated that those employees, who entered the premises to render services should fill in a register at the gate.
