– The Mbabane City Council is said to have requested an extension of time to conclude the process of hiring a new chief executive officer (CEO).
MBABANE
Ministry of Housing and Urban Development Principal Secretary (PS) Doctor Simon Zwane confirmed these developments to the Eswatini News.
“Regarding the progress of the recruitment process for the vacant CEO positions at the Mbabane City Council, the ministry awaits the submission of a recommended candidate as well as terms and conditions of employment by the Mbabane Town Council to the Minister Honourable Appolo Maphalala for final approval.
The Council has requested a seven-day time-frame to conclude the process,” Zwane said over a week ago.
Asked on the costs of this recruitment exercise and the consultancy company responsible for conducting the process, Zwane said it was important to note that the ministry incurred no expenses as the recruitment process was independently managed by the Council. The PS pointed out that this approach remained consistent across all towns. Clarifying the CEO recruitment at the other two mentioned towns, Vuvulane and Malkerns, Zwane said these towns were well on their own processes. “It is imperative to adhere to legal stipulations, whereby a town should not remain without a substantive CEO for a period exceeding six months,” Zwane pointed out.
The PS stressed that transparency and efficiency in the recruitment process for CEO positions within municipal entities remained paramount to the ministry.
“We remain committed to upholding the highest standards of good governance and ensuring the seamless functioning of municipalities. Should there be any further inquiries or clarifications needed, please do not hesitate to reach out,” the PS further said.
