These festivals are important in the sense that they give young people a chance to shine and showcase their talents to diverse audiences. The internatio­nal musicians and artists that usually attend these festivals are a source of inspiratio­n for upcoming as well as elite artists since they get a chance to network and share ideas that help them to develop their craft. We compile a brief preview of some of these festivals so you can get plenty of time to plan especially if you are looking to attend them.

MAKOTi FESTivAL

An event that is all about honouring bomakoti. Last year, it was hosted at Malkerns Country Club, headlined by Sjava alongside Hlengiwe Mhlaba, Shwi as well as Ngwana On It to name a few. This year the event will also make a comeback in the same venue. So far they have announced a number of musicians that will perform, this includes ‘Paris’ hitmaker Mthandeni SK, Ntokozo Mbambo as well as award-winning musician Bholoja. This is one of the biggest festivals that you dont want to miss this year, especially if you are a fan of music and fashion.

MTN BUSHFIRE FESTIVAL

This is another festival which you don’t want to miss this year. It is hosted at House On Fire in Malkerns and attracts tourists from over 10 countries worldwide. It is usually hosted during the month of May. Last year it continued to dominate in terms of attendance and it featured four stages namely, the MTN Bushfire Mainstage, Ballantine­s stage, Amstel stage as well as the Mastercard stage. Last years edition featured the likes of South African musicians Ami Faku, Stogie T, Kabza De Small, Sho Madjozi, Jack Parow, Ibeyi as well as The Cavemen to name a few. Local musician that also performed during the festival include Velemseni, Uncle Karly, Supa CDQ, Mixmash, Speech Umlangeni,

Qibho Intalektua­l as well as DJ MK to name a few. This year’s line-up is yet to be revealed and you guys should keep your ears in the ground.

MAHAMBA GORGE MUSIC FESTIVAL

This festival will be hosted at Mahamba from April 26 – 28. It will feature the likes of Sands, Dusty and Stones, Young Zesh, M Nation, Mshikishi, Dumako, Mzwaa, Bhubesi, Omahlalela, Samu Once
