NHe said as they know, the concept of globalisation has made the world a single family which means that whatever happens in a certain country affects the other. Therefore, he said it was imperative that they continue working with regional and international blocs in the maintenance of peace and stability in troubled countries.

He said they were delighted to receive positive feedback that some of them were serving well in other regional bodies where they were deployed. Again, he said they were grateful of the continued bravery of the UEDF members who were deployed in peacekeeping and support missions, especially in Somalia under the auspices of the African Union (AU). Therefore, he said resources would be mobilised to capacitate and equip a UEDF contingent for deployment within the auspices of the Southern African Development Community (SADC) peacekeeping missions as well in the spirit of collective security for the region. He said the deployment to SADC and that of deploying defence attachés to the UN and other international and regional blocs was long overdue. Therefore, he implored government and the army leadership to see to it that it is urgently done through provision of relevant resources.

Let the oath of allegiance be your guiding light wherever you go and whatever you utter with your mouth. Government will do all it she to meet your needs and address your issues accordingly. Government is making every effort to meet the needs of soldiers,” the King emphasised.

On another note, he said the establishment of the military base in Siteki and the expansion of the Zombodze camp into a fully-fledged military unit was evidence that the country was committed in making soldiers’ living and work environment suitable for their operations. Moreover, the King urged the soldiers to be mindful and always remember their oath and call to serve and defend the country. He said 51 years later, they must target achieving excellence and innovation in the military space so that they execute their work smart.
