PUPIL (8) fIGHTING FOR HER LIFE AFTER WALL FALLS ON HER

- BY THOKOZANI MAMBA

SITEKI – An eight-year-old Grade III pupil is fighting for her life after a concrete wall at KaMkhweli Primary School fell on her.

The incident happened on Friday afternoon after school.

Princess Dlamini of Mkhaya sustained serious injuries around the abdomen area and was rushed to Raleigh Fitkin Memorial (RFM) Hospital, where she is currently receiving medical attention after undergoing an operation.

According to her father, Mkhaya Baptist Church Pastor Sifiso Dlamini, he received a call after the incident and was informed that his child had been whisked to the RFM Hospital, after the concrete wall fell on her.

The father said he rushed to the hospital and found that the child’s mother was already with her.

The pastor shared that the medical staff, including doctors, explained that the child bled profusely after the incident.

He mentioned that the doctors were still monitoring her recuperation after explaining that they discovered that two pelvic bones were fractured during the incident and an operation in the pelvic area could be done in the Republic of South Africa.

The man of the cloth further shared that he was informed by the doctors that the pupil would be admitted for three weeks, while they monitored her recuperation.

Moreover, the pastor stated that it appeared pupils were playing around the concrete wall while waiting for their transport to ferry them to their respective homes when the incident happened.

“The doctors informed us that she was injured in the urinary area and cried when urinating, hence they administered the operation and she was now using pipes to urinate. We are praying that God saves her life and that she is young and maybe by the grace of God, she would recuperate fully and return to resume her lessons,” he said.

The school’s Head teacher, Sakhile Dlamini, did not respond to several calls to her mobile phone and had also not responded to a WhatsApp message sent to her at the time of compiling this report.

She has been asked to shed light on what transpired leading to the school’s concrete wall falling on the Grade III pupil on Friday.

The school’s Committee Chairperson, Sikhumbuzo Dlamini, extended the school’s remorseful sentiments to the Dlamini family and mentioned that they were still shocked and traumatised by the incident.

“I was informed that there was an accident at the school, whereby a concrete wall fell on a pupil. Making things worse is that I know the father of the pupil and we are praying that the grace of God saves her as she is still young and that there must be no complications as she grows,” the chairperson said.

According to an eyewitness, the police from Siphofaneni Police Station, were called to the scene and they promptly responded and recorded a statement with the school’s administration.
