Post-mortem: Mayaba stabbed over 15 times

- BY SIBONISO NKAMBULE

MBABANE - A post-mortem report has revealed that the late OK Foods employee was stabbed more than 15 times before she died.

The employee, Gabsile Mayaba (35), was allegedly killed by the father of her child, Saneliso Doctor Simelane, who allegedly stabbed her all over her body at Sitibeni in Mbabane last Wednesday.

She was certified dead upon arrival at the Mbabane Government Hospital.

Simelane made his first court appearance at the Mbabane Magistrates Court last Friday, where he made an hour-and-a-half-long confession before Magistrate Sifiso Vilakati.

Murder

The accused is facing a murder charge in that he allegedly killed Mayaba by stabbing her several times in the neck, head and chest with an Okapi knife.

He will be back in court today for a remand hearing.

According to sources, the post-mortem examination was conducted on Wednesday.

The sources said more than 15 stab wounds were found on Mayaba’s body.

Mayaba’s uncle, Malangeni Dlamini, confirmed that the post-mortem was conducted on Wednesday. Dlamini said he was not able to ascertain the exact number of stab wounds, because he did not witness the whole examination process.

He stated that he could not summon courage to sit through the process as he was overcome with emotion as her niece’s body was in a very bad state.

“It was really bad and I warned my other niece not to set foot in the examination room because that could have destroyed her,” Dlamini said.

Family

He mentioned that as a family, they were still shattered by the incident.

He said they were now only waiting for the court to do its part to ensure that justice is served.

During the confession, Simelane narrated that during the incident, he blacked out and did not remember how he eventually stabbed Mayaba several times.

He said he was doing the confession voluntarily and promised to speak the truth.

Simelane narrated to the court that Mayaba was allegedly his girlfriend and they were still in love.

He confessed that he did not remember how many times he stabbed the mother of his child.

Simelane shared that he was pained by the fact that his child would see him as her mother’s killer, something which he did not know how it happened.

On another note, Mayaba’s bishop, the founder of Rest in Christ Ministries International, Vincent Hlatshwako, challenged the faith community to cultivate a culture of zero tolerance to violence.

According to Hlatshwako, they noted with deep concern the escalating number of gender-based violence (GBV) incidents in the country.

“The brutal killing of women in particular, is something we believe that God will help us to see come to an end. Jesus came and gave us the challenge to love our neighbour and, what we continue to see is tangible evidence that love is lost,” Hlatshwako said.

He stated that as a church, their prayer was that God should restore the ministry of love in their families, communities, schools, businesses, marketplace and in every other place where God had given them the privilege to occupy.
