EZULWINI – The Central Bank of Eswatini’s 50th anniversary brought together renowned musicians, including Mathokoza Sibiya, to compose a captivating song titled ‘Halala Central Bank’, in celebration of the bank’s Golden Jubilee.

The celebration, held on Friday, was graced by His Majesty King Mswati III, Emakhosikati, Prime Minister Russell Dlamini, Cabinet ministers, members of the royal family, Members of Parliament, central bank staff members and invited guests.

When interviewed about the song and its inspiration, Mathokoza Sibiya, a well-known music veteran and composer, revealed that there was no specific inspiration for the composition as he was commissioned by the Central Bank of Eswatini (CBE).

GENEROUS

Sibiya was given a three months to create the song, along with the text provided by the bank.

He also emphasised that composing music involves either commission or inspiration, and in this case, it was a commissioned piece.

“I was given the task of composing a song for the Central Bank of Eswatini about three months ago and with this I created a song which I performed to the guests titled ‘Halala Central Bank’,” said Sibiya.

MOOD

The song is one that got His Majesty King Mswati the III leading the guests in celebration, as he waved his hands in a celebratory mood joined by CBE Governor Phil Mnisi and the guests followed suit. Sibiya’s talent and versatility in composing were also highlighted, as he had previously composed a song titled ‘Emashumi Lamatsatfu Nesihlanu’, for the South African Old Mutual National Choir Festival in 2020. The celebration did not stop at the song performance alone.

The event featured a special guest artist, renowned Jazz musician Don Laka from South Africa, who enthralled the crowd with his timeless classics. His Majesty King Mswati III was also seen enjoying the music as he sat watching. Don Laka also played his famous track titled ‘Big Day’, which he said was specifically requested by His Majesty.

ADORNED

The festival venue was adorned with exquisite decorations, featuring crystal chandeliers and fresh, brightly coloured flowers on glass tables. The ambiance was vibrant and lively, with guests mingling and enjoying each other’s company at round tables.

The central bank made sure to invite top-notch entertainment for the occasion, including the young and talented artists iYA, Msimisi and two renowned saxophonists, Zwile and Fakazi Samuel.

Their performances added to the already electrifying atmosphere of the festival. To complement the musical extravaganza, the guests were treated to a delectable three-course meal. The menu consisted of a flavourful mushroom soup with croissant bites as an appetiser, followed by a main course featuring potato wedges, greens and three protein options.

PERFECT

Finally, a refreshing dessert of fresh fruits and whipped cream provided the perfect ending to the evening.

The celebration and the performance of ‘Halala Central Bank’ served as a testament to the bank’s 50 years of service and excellence. The event showcased the rich musical talent of Eswatini and brought together artists, dignitaries and music enthusiasts to celebrate this momentous occasion in style.

As the night came to a close, the celebration left a lasting impression on all those in attendance, creating memories that will be cherished for years to come and the bank closed things off with a fireworks display where 50 fireworks were lit.
