Former Star to Lead Suva
Former national netball shooting ace Vasiti Vugakoto is the Suva Netball Association president. She was elected during the SNA annual general meeting in Suva. Also confirmed in the newly elected SNA office bearers are former national netball coach Gabriel Qoro as vice-president, Elenoa Rokowailoa as secretary with Hannah Tuikoro as treasurer. It was also agreed during the AGM that SNA is to hold workshops for umpires at the start of the season. SNA secretary Rokowailoa said this is because of the introduction of new rules from the International Federation of Netball Association (IFNA). “That is why training is needed,” she said. “The new committee has scheduled a meeting next week to discuss the final objectives and logistics before we roll it out to the association.
“We intend to start by the last week of April. Given the change in rules from IFNA, we are also considering to run a clinic for all Suva umpires as we prepare for the knockout competition.” Rokowailoa said they also plan to create more excitement during their weekly games. She said the AGM was a successful one with representatives from the eight clubs, Lomaiviti, CBM, Veiyasana, Valenawanawa Roses, Tabuya, Army, USP and Rovers attending. “It was a very productive meet- ing where issues were being raised and appropriately addressed by the outgoing committee. These included the utilisation of the budget for last year. “The challenges faced throughout the season, the success of the association in terms of achievements as a whole and lastly working on the weakness and ways to move forward and improve this year. We were very fortunate to have our senior members who highlighted important matters to consider as we commence into another new season.”
