Rugby League: Marist U19 out
Marist Brothers High School Under-19 side are out of the Vodafone Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League competition after going down to Ratu Latianara Memorial School 22- 6 at Saint Marcellin ground in Suva yesterday. Fiji Secondary Schools Rugby League assistant secretary Taniela Vakamoce said this was the biggest upset of the day. “Today’s games were quite interesting it was a tough game between Ratu Latianara and Marist, but you could tell that they came out prepared,” he said. “This goes to show the level of competition has really grown and schools are taking such competition seriously and not just playing for the sake of it.” In the other U19 game Ratu Sukuna Memorial School beat Lomaivuna High School 14-6. In the U17 grade, Dudley High School thrashed Assemblies of God (AOG) 42-2 while Gospel High School went down to Latter Day Saints (LDS) 12-18. In the U15 grade, RSMS beat Dudley High School 4-0 while AOG edged out Nasinu Secondary School 2-0. With the completion of pool rounds, the top four teams have been identified in the U15, U17 and U19 grades for the national quarterfinals which will be held in Lautoka on April 9. It is confirmed that: • U15: AOG, NSS, RSMS and DHS U17: NSS, LDS, Lelean Memorial School and RSMS U19: AOG, NSS, RSMS and DHS. With the national quarterfinals two weeks away, Vakamoce says, the Southern/ East Zone will provide teams from the Western Zone a tough battle. “Though the schools will be under the Southern Zone when they play in the quarterfinals, this is not all about winning. The main thing we are hoping to bring out of this is development. It is so good to see schools like Ratu Latianara upsetting the favourites, that is what we want to see because that will indicate to us that development is happening.”
