Adrug accused was released on bail by the Labasa Magistrates Court. Appearing before Magistrate Cama Tuberi in a special court sitting yesterday, Mohammed Taki, charged with unlawful possession of illicit drugs, was granted bail on strict conditions despite opposition to bail by Northern Divisional Police Prosecutor Inspector Subramani Naidu. Inspector Naidu also told the court that Taki was found in possession of a small amount of marijuana during the weekend and linked to suspected commercial drug farming in Vanua Levu. Taki was represented by Amrit Sen who argued that his client was a first offender and had provided two sureties. Magistrate Tuberi then granted Taki bail and told Inspector Naidu to provide second phase of disclosures to Taki’s lawyer, Mr Sen. The case has been adjourned for mention on April 19.
