Labasa drug ac­cused on strict bail or­der

Adrug ac­cused was re­leased on bail by the Labasa Mag­is­trates Court. Ap­pear­ing be­fore Mag­is­trate Cama Tu­beri in a spe­cial court sit­ting yes­ter­day, Mo­hammed Taki, charged with un­law­ful pos­ses­sion of il­licit drugs, was granted bail on strict con­di­tions de­spite op­po­si­tion to bail by North­ern Di­vi­sional Po­lice Pros­e­cu­tor In­spec­tor Subra­mani Naidu. In­spec­tor Naidu also told the court that Taki was found in pos­ses­sion of a small amount of mar­i­juana dur­ing the week­end and linked to sus­pected com­mer­cial drug farm­ing in Vanua Levu. Taki was rep­re­sented by Am­rit Sen who ar­gued that his client was a first of­fender and had pro­vided two sureties. Mag­is­trate Tu­beri then granted Taki bail and told In­spec­tor Naidu to pro­vide sec­ond phase of dis­clo­sures to Taki’s lawyer, Mr Sen. The case has been ad­journed for men­tion on April 19.
