More clubs register for Saunaka 7s
Back after a lapse of 24 years, the Saunaka rugby 7s officials are encouraged by the response of clubs wanting to play in their April 9 tournament.
Yesterday, the officials confirmed that 22 clubs have registered. Saunaka 7s tournament chairman Ratu Ponijese Rayasi said the spots have been going like hot cakes. “The number of teams has in- creased and we are looking at more teams to come in the next few days,” Ratu Ponijese said.
Clubs that have recently confirmed their participation are Waitabu Babaas, Dratabu (Nadi), Caucaunitoba (Nadi), Speedwing, Solevu Babaas, Uto Babaas, Fiji Fish (Nausori), Homeboys Rugby (Nausori), Votualevu, CBM (Nadi), Army (Sigatoka), Navala Blues, Mosi, and former national 7s champions Nawaka. These clubs have joined Wardens Gold, Police, Natabua Gold, Saunaka Gold, Army (Green), Saunaka Red, Malomalo Youth, West-Bus Kovacake Blues and Tovolea (Nadi).
Rayasi said it would be great to have some big names clash on game day. Meanwhile, tournament officials have welcomed the kind sponsorships that have come from the business sector.
