More clubs reg­is­ter for Sau­naka 7s

Back af­ter a lapse of 24 years, the Sau­naka rugby 7s of­fi­cials are en­cour­aged by the re­sponse of clubs want­ing to play in their April 9 tour­na­ment.

Yes­ter­day, the of­fi­cials con­firmed that 22 clubs have reg­is­tered. Sau­naka 7s tour­na­ment chair­man Ratu Poni­jese Rayasi said the spots have been go­ing like hot cakes. “The num­ber of teams has in- creased and we are look­ing at more teams to come in the next few days,” Ratu Poni­jese said.

Clubs that have re­cently con­firmed their par­tic­i­pa­tion are Waitabu Babaas, Dratabu (Nadi), Cau­cau­ni­toba (Nadi), Speed­wing, Solevu Babaas, Uto Babaas, Fiji Fish (Nau­sori), Home­boys Rugby (Nau­sori), Vo­tualevu, CBM (Nadi), Army (Si­ga­toka), Navala Blues, Mosi, and for­mer na­tional 7s cham­pi­ons Nawaka. These clubs have joined War­dens Gold, Po­lice, Natabua Gold, Sau­naka Gold, Army (Green), Sau­naka Red, Malo­malo Youth, West-Bus Ko­va­cake Blues and To­v­olea (Nadi).

Rayasi said it would be great to have some big names clash on game day. Mean­while, tour­na­ment of­fi­cials have wel­comed the kind spon­sor­ships that have come from the busi­ness sec­tor.
