Kumar to attend global forum

Young peace builder’s selection a milestone

As a young peace builder, Kaajal Kumar hopes to build inclusive societies through understand­ing and respect among cultural and religious communitie­s. Founder and Executive Director for Aspire Network Ms Kumar will represent Fiji’s youths to the 7th Global Forum of the United Nations Alliance of Civilisati­ons to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan from April 25-27. She was amongst the 150 young leaders selected out of 6000 applicatio­ns received from young people working in more than 160 countries. “It is an honour to represent my country in the world’s largest, prestigiou­s and most powerful peace building UN forum,” Ms Kumar said. “As a young peace builder it was my dream to one day attend this forum and this is also a milestone achievemen­t for Aspire Network as it is now become an internatio­nally recognised NGO for its work.” With the theme for the Forum set as ‘Living Together In Inclusive Societies: A Challenge and A Goal’, the Forum will be stressing the inclusive aspect of living together and will harness the multiple perspectiv­es of various sectors to meet the challenge of, and progress towards, inclusive living in today’s increasing­ly diverse societies. United Nations Secretary General, Ban Ki-moon will also be part of the forum.
