Of­fi­cer Held in Drug Bust

Tip-off leads to K-9 con­sta­ble’s home raided

APo­lice con­sta­ble from the K-9 unit is in cus­tody af­ter drugs were al­legedly found in his home at Tacirua. Po­lice Com­mis­sioner Bri­gadier-Gen­eral Si­tiveni Qil­iho con­firmed that fol­low­ing a tip-off, Di­vi­sional Po­lice Com­man­der South­ern Biu Matavou or­gan­ised a team to raid the home of the con­sta­ble who is a mem­ber of the K-9 unit, the Fiji Po­lice Dog Unit.

Thirty-eight sa­chets and nine rolls of dried branches of about 30 cen­time­tres long were found in the home of the Po­lice con­sta­ble. “A raid was con­ducted and dried leaves be­lieved to be mar­i­juana was

found in the home of this Po­lice con­sta­ble,” Bri­gadier-Gen­eral Qil­iho said.

“I want to take this op­por­tu­nity to is­sue a warn­ing to the of­fi­cers that such acts will not be con­doned. If they break the law, they will face the full brunt of the law. “I also want the gen­eral pub­lic to come forth and pro­vide in­for­ma­tion about any Po­lice of­fi­cers en­gaged in wrong­do­ing. “I as­sure them that ac­tion will be taken against Po­lice of­fi­cers who are break the law. “The of­fi­cer was ar­rested and taken to the Valelevu Po­lice Sta­tion and the dried leaves found have been sent to Koronivia Re­search Sta­tion for test­ing.”
