Nadi It is public knowledge and has been now over a month since the Leader of the Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa, had pledged and committed that all her 17 Opposition parliamentarian members will have $70K in total given as their contribution for relief assistance to victims of Cyclone Winston. That will be a result of the SODELPA member’s collective agreement to part with a percentage of their yearly salary to selectively benefit their voters only. May I ask the Secretary to Parliament and the Ministry of Finance Permanent Secretary to please confirm, for the sake of public interest and transparency, if the deductions were really implemented? If yes, can they inform Fijians as to whom did they assist as far as your donations are concerned? That is taxpayers monies to which we all have the right to know how and where it was used.

But I do hope it was not just an ill-conceived convenient political ploy. Word from the grapevine is that the majority of their members did not agree to the deductions as

Obesity is generally caused by eating too much and moving too little. If one consumes high amounts of energy from his or her diet, particularly from fat and sugar but do not burn off the energy through exercise and physical activity, much of the surplus energy is then stored by the body as fat. The most common causes of obesity is over -eating and physical inactivity. Ultimately body weight is the result of genetics, metabolism, behaviour and culture. A person is more likely to develop obesity if one or both parents are obese.

Obesity-related health problems are serious for a person if a person shows careless ness and does not look after his or her body in a proper method. Obesity can cause heart attack. It causes stroke, causes cancer, Type 2 diabetes, abnormal blood flows, and metabolic syndrome are also caused by being obese.

Obesity can lead to heart failure. This is a serious condition in which a person’s heart cannot pump blood to meet the body’s need. Coronary heart disease is a condition in which a waxy substance called plaque builds up inside the coronary arteries. The plaques usually builds up and blocks coronary arteries in supplying blood properly to the whole body. A person’s chances are high and greater in having high blood pressure if he or she is overweight and obese.

Plaques and blood clots if close to the brain can block the flow of blood and oxygen to the brain and can be a serious cause of stroke. Obesity can lead to many forms of sicknesses to the body.

The serious ones are heart attack, stroke, cancer, diabetes Type 2, high blood pressure, gallstones, reproductive system, sleep apnea, etc. Therefore it is much desirable for every person to understand about his or her eating style, body movement, physical activity, body rest and so on. Obesity also harms a person’s body and figure. The body shape gets bulky and too fat and sometimes looks ugly.
