PM visits flood-hit victims

With cyclones Winston and Zena behind us and flood waters receding, our Prime Minister, Voreqe Bainimaram­a, has been on the road daily. He has been visiting and providing comfort and reassuranc­e that Government was ready and committed in rebuilding the nation and helping those affected by the cyclones and flooding.

The Fiji Sevashram Sangha has started their first phase of operations. These include providing hot meals for hundreds of people taking shelter in evacuation centres in the Western Division. Swami Sanyuktana­nd, who leads the team, said they had been feeding 500 people affected by the flood at evacuation centres daily. “Fiji Sevashram since Thursday initiated its immediate relief response to Cyclone Zena floods which affected the Western Viti Levu,” Mr Sanyuktana­nd said. Volunteers at the Lautoka Ashram also prepared hot meals for more than 500 people in Andrews Primary School in Nadi yesterday. “Immediate emergency relief packs containing noodles, biscuits, tin fish and baked beans has also been prepared for direct distributi­on to the affected families,” he said. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a thanked the organisati­on for their support and the faith they have instilled in other Fijians affected by the recent flooding. “Good job! Let’s continue having this comradeshi­p in assisting others who are in need of help,” Mr Bainimaram­a said. “Government is grateful to groups such as yours (FSS) in assisting Government reach out to meet the immediate needs of families affected.” Edited by Paula Tuvuki
