The famous Destiny Child’s song “I am a survivor” covered by Pasifika Voices brought to life the ‘Vueti Viti: Together We Are Stronger’ relief concert at the University of the South Pacific on Saturday night. The concert was part of the USP Vice Chancellor’s cyclone relief efforts to assist people devastated by the monster Tropical Cyclone Winston in February. A few minutes silence was also observed to remember those who had lost their lives and survivors of Cyclone Winston. The concert saw the performances of local music artists/groups like Accalewas, Pasifika Voices, KKU and dance performances from the USP Oceania Dance Theatre. USP Head of Performing Arts, Iglese Ete said his team had prepared well for the concert. “We are honoured to perform in this concert especially when it involves using our talents to assist people who had been devasted by TC Winston.

“We also hope to speak life into people through our performance and use our talents through performing arts to assist our brothers and sisters who are still trying to pick up the pieces of what was left from the cyclone,” he said.

Chief guest, University of the South Pacific regional campuses, properties and facilities vice president, Giulio Masasso Paunga, said the concert was one of their responses to the terrible disaster by Cyclone Winston. The concert was hosted by the Oceania Centre for Arts, Culture and Pacific Studies under the Faculty of Arts, Law and Education.
