The National Fire Authority ( NFA) completed a firefighting team training course for the Pernix Fiji Limited fi refighting team at the NFA Headquarters in Walu Bay, Suva yesterday.

Ten Pernix Fiji Limited staff attended the training and they received certificates for successfully completing the training. The training involved a theory component and a practical assessment. Theory component instilled staff with basic fire safety tips whereas practical assessment trained staff on how to use various types of firefighting equipment.

In most fire incidents staff usually panic and don’t know what to do. The first response is very important during a fire and an in-house workplace firefighting team will act as a first respondent during a fire while awaiting the arrival of the NFA fire team to put out the fire.

Chief fire officer Qionilau Moceitai said the firefighting team training is very important for businesses which will assist in fire prevention. “Organisations can contact the Commercial Training Department at the NFA Headquarters in Suva to arrange a fire safety training course to be conducted for the staff,” Mr Moceitai added. Meanwhile, Pernix Fiji Limited Team Leader Mechanical Jovilisi Baleivuna said they have learnt a lot from the Firefighting Team Training conducted by the NFA. “We have learnt a lot interms of fire safety at the workplace and how to use various firefighting equipment which will enable us to prevent a fire disaster.
