Milestone agreement between Fiji, Singapore
The Land Transport Authority has signed a memorandum of understanding ( MOU) with the Land Transport Authority of Singapore to collaborate in the exchange and sharing of information in the field of transportation and other subjects of common interest between the parties. The signing of the MOU marks an important milestone by LTA Fiji and LTA Singapore to establish a co-operative framework to share their transport system experience. The agreement was signed in Singapore by Vijay Maharaj, LTA board chairman and Lew Yii Der, LTA Singapore group director corporate planning and development, and was witnessed by Naisa Tu- inaceva, LTA chief executive officer and Verghese Mathews, Singapore’s High Commissioner to Fiji. Under the terms of the three-year contract, the two authorities will collaborate on joint programmes and this will include partnership in areas of: 1. Vocational licensing of drivers of Public Service Vehicles; 2. Regulation and enforcement of vehicle loadings; 3. Road safety management; 4. Traffic management; 5. Public transport promotion and services; and 6. Capacity building of human resources. The authority embarked in this direction to understand the dif- ferent strategies employed by LTA Singapore for common issues and challenges and assess the best approach applicable for adaptation here in Fiji. LTA board chairman Mr Maharaj has welcomed the new partnership, saying the authorities recognised the need to promote and strengthen information sharing and the MOU was a great start. “This is a huge achievement for LTA as we have always wanted to form a working relationship with LTA Singapore. We are happy to be part of this MOU, through which we can share our experiences with and learn from LTA Singapore.” Source: Land Transport Authority
