They thought they were safe when they reinforced their house with thick steel. But they were wrong. The couple, who are doctors, were shocked masked robbers cut their way through their fortified home.

They are so fearful for their lives that they did not want photos taken and names mentioned. “What good would that do? We are old and we cannot defend ourselves,” the wife said.

This is not the first time they have been hit. The two earlier ones were not that bad.

In the latest, the husband, 75, and wife, 73, said the robbers were well equipped and had incredible strength to breach their security setup. The robbers jumped the fence from the back and cut through thick steel. The doctors had recently spent several thousands of dollars to build and strengthen their security. The robbers then moved to the front and did the same thing cutting through heavy steel reinforcement. The wife said the experience was traumatic. She said: “They went through all the rooms collecting all valuable gadgets and money.” She said they were holding her husband and they could have done something to him if she had not co-operated. “I told them to take everything they want but please do not hurt us. Our lives are more important,” she said. “Though they were thieves they had a mind and heart to listen to the public. They did not hurt me or my husband,” she added. Police Spokesperson and Inspector Josaia Weicavu said they were concerned about the rise in crime.

He said Police were still searching for the masked men and anyone with information was asked to call 919. Edited by Nemani Delaibatiki
