Bullet indeed found on Fiji Airways plane
Fiji Airways had confirmed a bullet was indeed found on one of its aircraft in January this year.
The aircraft had just completed its commercial flight route: Nadi – Auckland – Nadi on January 8.
The airline confirned the bullet was discovered by ground cleaning crews upon its arrival at Nadi International Airport. Fiji Airways immediately followed procedure and alerted local authorities (the Fiji Police Force) who quarantined the aircraft, and launched an investigation. The aircraft was subsequently cleared and released for operations. As this is an ongoing investigation, Fiji Airways could not comment further and has directed all further queries on the matter to the Fiji Police.
“Fiji Airways has strict procedures in place, as the safety and security of passengers and crew is the airline’s highest priority,” the airline said. The issue however brings into question the security checks at other renowned airports where our national career flies to. The immediate questions going in anyone’s mind would be how did the bullet pass the security checks? Was there an accompanying gun? Was there a motive really? Did the bullet get on board at the Auckland Airport? Will authorities in Auckland strengthen security checks? Further questions would be answered after investigations are completed.
