Samisoni Viriviri’s smile lights up Twickenham yesterday as he scores against Australia. And the Vodafone Fijian 7s team are crowned champions of the the 2015/16 Rugby Sevens World Series. The 26-0 win over Australia ensured the Vodafone Fijians qualified for the London 7s quarterfinals. They could then not be overtaken by second place South Africa on the points table. This is our second world series title in a row.

That performance against Australia was unbelievable. Our defence was just fantastic. I said to the boys, they weren’t just tackles, they were tackles from the heart. They were a brilliant 14 minutes of rugby from our boys. Ben Ryan

Rugby sevens support group South Bay Davui, based in California, USA, reached and surpassed the targeted amount of $15,000 required to purchase gym equipments for the Vodafone Fijian 7s team. The fundraiser on www.gofundme.com has reached a current total of $15,721which was raised by 155 people who have donated money to help contribute to the Fiji 7s Road to Rio campaign. South Bay Davui has stated on their fundraiser page that because of the limited funding available for Fijian 7s team, the project to raise funds for the equipment will be huge boost to the side. “The Road to Rio continues on with a little over three months to go before our national teams head into Olympic preparations in June. “So faced with limited funding (and a time crunch) the next fundraiser is for the purchase of gym equipments. The Gym Site is currently being cleared by the training grounds at Uprising Resort, Pacific Harbour.

Boost

“While our competitors like New Zealand, South Africa, and USA have access to Olympic training sites & funding, this project will be a huge boost to the Fiji 7’s Olympic preparations.” Vodafone Fijian 7s rep Isake Katonibau along with the rest of the 7s team put up a video thanking South Bay Davui and everyone who has donated. “Bula vinaka South Bay Davui, Bula vinaka Fiji I take this opportunity on behalf of the team and the management to thank South Bay Davui and all the contributors to the purchase of our gym equipment.” South Bay Davui will source re-furbished gym equipments from the United States for shipping across to Pacific Harbour by the first week of June.
