The general manager of Warwick Fiji Brad Downton has called for more activities on Coral Coast to better promote tourism. During the Tourism Fiji’s Talanoa Road show at Outrigger on the Lagoon Beach Resort and Spa, yesterday, Mr Downton reminded the stakeholders that not only Denarau but Coral Coast had much to offer tourists. “We are looking at trying to press upon Tourism Fiji that Denarau is not the only destination here in Fiji. What we are trying to do is trying to get a lot more awareness to the Coral Coast because Coral Coast has so much to offer, but FTE and many other opportunities are going to Denarau.” He said that he and others operating along the Coral Coast were trying to get Tourism Fiji into engaging activities and to assist Coral Coast as a destination. “They’ve got Denarau covered, so we just need a bit more focus on the Coral Coast.” The Road show saw a number of hoteliers and resort managers come to discuss their issues and to convey their messages to Tourism Fiji representatives. Mr Downton said part of the discussions was to get an update on the newcomers at Tourism Fiji, to get to know their names and be updated. Meanwhile, the resort manager of Outrigger Fiji Beach Resort, Russell Blaik, said the meeting was good as the turnout of the Coral Coast members and stakeholders were good. “There has been a certain decline in the number of tourists in our area this year, so we have had discussions in regards to that,” Mr Blaik said.
