Drau­nidalo sus­pen­sion, budget tops NFP agenda

Na­tional Fed­er­a­tion Party work­ing com­mit­tee will meet to­day to dis­cuss Roko Tupou’s case and the ef­fects of the 2016-17 Na­tional Budget

The sus­pen­sion from Par­lia­ment of Na­tional Fed­er­a­tion Party pres­i­dent Roko Tupou Drau­nidalo will be on top of the agenda in a com­mit­tee meet­ing to­day in Malolo in Nadi, says party gen­eral sec­re­tary Bala Dass. Mr Dass said the sus­pen­sion of Roko Tupou and the ef­fects of the 2016-17 Na­tional Budget on the or­di­nary cit­i­zens will be ex­ten­sively dis­cussed at the NFP Work­ing Com­mit­tee. She was suspended from Par­lia­ment for the rest of her par­lia­men­tary term af­ter the par­lia­men­tary priv­i­leges com­mit­tee ruled her com­ments in Par­lia­ment cre­ated ill will and hos­til­ity amongst our com­mu­ni­ties. “The Fi­jiFirst Gov­ern­ment used its nu­mer­i­cal ma­jor­ity in Par­lia­ment to pass the mo­tion on June 3,” Mr Dass said. The NFP has al­ready stated that her sus­pen­sion was un­just and unfair. The meet­ing will ex­plore and de­cide what op­tions are avail­able to Roko Tupou to seek re­dress. Party leader and shadow Min­is­ter for Fi­nance Bi­man Prasad will also speak on par­lia­men­tary mat­ters in­clud­ing the 2016-2017 Budget handed down on Wed­nes­day. The Party leader has al­ready ex­pressed con­cern about the ris­ing debt, which is ex­pected to be 50.4 per cent of GDP next year. The meet­ing will adopt res­o­lu­tions on ma­jor issues on our na­tional po­lit­i­cal and eco­nomic land­scape.

To­day’s meet­ing gets un­der­way at 10.30am and will be at­tended by del­e­gates and mem­bers from the Party’s branches. Source: Na­tional Fed­er­a­tion Party
