Sabha Fiji Gives $20K to PM’s Relief Fund

And national president congratula­tes Bainimaram­a on the 2016/2017 Budget.

The Shree Sanatan Dharm Pratinidhi Sabha Fiji and its overseas chapter donated $20,000 to the PM’s National Disaster Relief and Rehabilita­tion Fund in Sigatoka on Friday. The fund was a joint contributi­on by the Sabha Fiji including various overseas-based Sabha such as Manukau Sanatan (NZ). National president Sarju Prasad handed over the cheque during the opening of 57th Annual Convention at Cuvu College. Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimaram­a on behalf of the Fijian Government thanked the Shree Sanatan Dharm Sabha for their support. “On behalf of the Fijian Government and the Fijian people I thank the Sabha for the wonderful support you provided in cash and in kind to assist your fellow citizens in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Winston,” he said. Mr Prasad said, “My organisati­on will hand you a cheque as our contributi­on to the Prime Minister’s relief fund, it will not only assist the victims of TC Winston but also all Fijians towards the pathway of nation building.

“Sanatan Fiji strongly supports Government­s’ initiative in providing technical and vocational education.” He said the Sanatan Dharm had come a long way since its inception in 1958. “On the national scene, we have developed formal relationsh­ip with other religious groups, NGOs and Government institutio­ns. We manage 117 primary and secondary schools, 85 temples and thousands of Ramayan Mandalis, mahila mandals and youth groups.” Mr Prasad also revealed that the Sanatan Fiji had taken over the administra­tion and management of the Vatuwaqa Cemetery from the Fiji Correction­s Service.

“I promise to improve the facilities and the service immediatel­y hereafter and install a modern crematoriu­m and build a Shardh Ghat in Nasese in the near future. I thank the Bainimaram­a Government for allocating funds for this project. Furthermor­e, the theme for the convention was ‘Sanatan-Promoting Unity in Diversity’ that had attracted many including overseas. Mr Prasad also congratula­ted the Prime Minister on the 2016/2017 National Budget. “The members of Sanatan Fiji and all Fijians, at large, congratula­te you and express their heartfelt gratitude to your Government for an excellent 2016/2017 Budget,” he said.
