Vunivaivai Bridge

It has been a great relief and benefit for people of the tikina of Nakelo for the new bridge. There are safety measures in place as pedestrians now have their own path to walk on. The bridge is also a very important connection between the Bua Road and the Wainibokasi Road. With many mishaps at the beginning of the construction it took some time in getting the job going, but finally a job well done at the end. Also with the support of the two Yavusa’s – Vutuvo and Naluna – the work couldn’t have been possible.

During the period of closure for construction it had created problems for school children from the Bau end to travel to the Wainibokasi end. And also when the Wainibokasi Morgue was full villages on the Wainibokasi side had to travel a longer route to get to the Mokani morgue. It was the same for those living in the Bau end of the bridge.

The buses also had difficulties in getting people around these areas. But it was worth the wait for such a landmark for the people of Vunivaivai Village to be proud of.
