New Labasa Ro­tary pres­i­dent tells of plans

The newly ap­pointed pres­i­dent of the Labasa Ro­tary Club, Ra­jneel Ma­haraj, has plans to help the less for­tu­nate in ru­ral ar­eas in the North. Mr Ma­haraj in­formed club mem­bers and guests gath­ered at Takia Ho­tel on Wed­nes­day night in Labasa that service to mankind was service to God.

“Dur­ing my per­sonal vis­its, peo­ple have gen­uinely ex­pressed that they have been de­prived of the many ser­vices such as trans­port and med­i­cal ser­vices, be­cause of their ge­o­graph­i­cal location and poverty,” Mr Ma­haraj said. “Ro­tary is about service above self, and surely I will work with the mem­bers to help the un­for­tu­nate.

“One of the ob­jec­tives of Ro­tary Club is to en­cour­age and foster the ideal of ser­vices as ba­sic wor­thy en­ter­prise, in par­tic­u­lar to en­cour­age and foster the ap­pli­ca­tion of the ideal of service in each Ro­tar­ian’s per­sonal, busi­ness and com­mu­nity life.

“It is an hon­our to be the pres­i­dent of the Labasa Ro­tary Club,” Mr Ma­haraj said. “I will con­tinue with the for­mer pres­i­dent, Ami Kohli’s pro­ject plan, which is the con­struc­tion of the evac­u­a­tion cen­tre in Labasa.” Mean­while, the chief guest, Com­mis­sioner North­ern Jovesa Vo­cea, com­mended the club for the many projects and com­mu­nity ser­vices they had pro­vided over the years. “I salute the club mem­bers for the Good Sa­mar­i­tan work and I urge you to con­tinue to up­lift the so­cioe­co­nomic sta­tus of our peo­ple,” Mr Vo­cea said.
