The newly appointed president of the Labasa Rotary Club, Rajneel Maharaj, has plans to help the less fortunate in rural areas in the North. Mr Maharaj informed club members and guests gathered at Takia Hotel on Wednesday night in Labasa that service to mankind was service to God.

“During my personal visits, people have genuinely expressed that they have been deprived of the many services such as transport and medical services, because of their geographical location and poverty,” Mr Maharaj said. “Rotary is about service above self, and surely I will work with the members to help the unfortunate.

“One of the objectives of Rotary Club is to encourage and foster the ideal of services as basic worthy enterprise, in particular to encourage and foster the application of the ideal of service in each Rotarian’s personal, business and community life.

“It is an honour to be the president of the Labasa Rotary Club,” Mr Maharaj said. “I will continue with the former president, Ami Kohli’s project plan, which is the construction of the evacuation centre in Labasa.” Meanwhile, the chief guest, Commissioner Northern Jovesa Vocea, commended the club for the many projects and community services they had provided over the years. “I salute the club members for the Good Samaritan work and I urge you to continue to uplift the socioeconomic status of our people,” Mr Vocea said.
