Aust group raises hand to help Tavua Vil­lage

An Aus­tralian Not­For-Profit Char­ity -’Aussie Tradies Res­cue’ wants to help peo­ple of Tavua Vil­lage who were af­fected by Cy­clone Win­ston. Ac­cord­ing to Robert Ather­ton, this group is made up of Aus­tralian trades per­son­nel. “They want to re­build Tavua Vil­lage which was af­fected by the cy­clone,” he said. The team is ex­pected to ar­rive here next month and ac­cord­ing to Mr Ather­ton the group will bring with them hous­ing ma­te­ri­als from Aus­tralia.

“Due to this be­ing a Not­for-Profit char­ity and the many high costs of get­ting such a pro­ject off the ground, we are ap­proach­ing the Fi­jian Gov­ern­ment and seek­ing as­sis­tance in way of grants and/or Tax & VAT ex­emp­tions, es­pe­cially on ma­te­ri­als we are hav­ing shipped over to com­plete these much needed work,” he said. He said the group of trades per­son­nel wanted to help and picked Tavua Vil­lage to work on after read­ing about the ex­tent of the dam­age caused by Win­ston. Edited by Naisa Koroi
