Bua backs VKB digital move
The province of Bua supports the digitalisation of the Register of Native Land Owners (Vola-Ni-Kawa-BulaVKB). Speaking to the Fiji Sun, Wainunu chief the Turaga Na Tui Wainunu, Ratu Orisi Baleitavea, said the Bua Provincial Council meeting was told by the representatives of the Ministry of the iTaukei Affairs of the change. Ratu Orisi said the VKB was like a bible to the iTaukei people. The digitalisation of the VKB would mean that people would easily access all the information about them. He said in villages, there were many debates like landownership and chiefly titles disputes and some other matters. “With the digitalisation of the VKB the issues could be easily resolved instead of waiting for an official from the Native Lands Commission,” he said. He said the province had been updated on the work and they were happy that it was near completion. The roles of the VKB are as follows: Registration of iTaukei landowners into the Register of Native Landowners [Vola-Ni-Kawa-Bula] in accordance with MP.4089126; Renewal of Registers by retyping, checking and binding; Updating Provincial and office copies; Transfer of names; Updating of agnatic family registers; Provision of information relating to VKB matters.
