Four players to go: Ryan
our players could be dropped from the Fijian national 7s squad tomorrow, says Ben Ryan. The national 7s coach warned the next eight days would be exciting and historic for the players vying for the 12-member Olympic team. “After Friday we will have four sessions and at that point I’ll probably drop three or four,” he said. “Everyone is in camp including Josua Tuisova. We need to give him some rest after his season. I’ll have a look at him and see what time off he needs to have as far as his contract with Toulon is concerned. “Emosi Mulevoro’s got quite a nasty cut during training which required a few stitches. He won’t be doing anything for a couple of days, should be back on Monday.
“Jarryd went to see his chiropractor in Australia and just freed up his hip a little bit and he’s been training fine. Pio Tuwai got released from hospital and trained in every session.” Ryan said he would be monitoring Tuwai’s performance as this would be his last chance to prove himself. “Pio knows he cannot drop any sessions because if he misses then it’s probably his dream is over,”Ryan said.
“If he doesn’t train fully in the next couple of weeks than my decision will be made because he won’t be fit enough. It won’t be fair to pick him in front of the other boys who have been working very hard.
“They need to be reminded that the tap on the shoulder will be coming and it’s happening this weekend.” Ryan will name the 12 players next Saturday. Edited by Osea Bola
