Woman charged for al­legedly rap­ing daugh­ter

Court grants pros­e­cu­tion ap­pli­ca­tion to trans­fer case to High Court

Awoman ap­peared at the Nas­inu Mag­is­trates Court for al­legedly rap­ing her daugh­ter. Mag­is­trate Charles Ratakele has re­manded the 45-year-old mother who is charged with a count each of rape and as­sault caus­ing ac­tual bod­ily harm.

It is al­leged that be­tween Jan­uary 1 and July 5, 2016 at Nas­inu the woman had sex­ual re­la­tions with her 14-year -old daugh­ter. The mother also al­legedly as­saulted the daugh­ter caus­ing ac­tual bod­ily harm. Po­lice Pros­e­cu­tor Cor­po­ral Pau­liasi Lu­tu­nauga ob­jected to bail on the grounds that it was an in­dictable of­fense and that the case should be trans­ferred to High Court. The charges were read out in the i-Taukei language which the ac­cused un­der­stood and pleaded not guilty to. The mat­tert has been ad­journed to July 29 and will be heard at the High Court in Suva.
