Woman charged for allegedly raping daughter
Court grants prosecution application to transfer case to High Court
Awoman appeared at the Nasinu Magistrates Court for allegedly raping her daughter. Magistrate Charles Ratakele has remanded the 45-year-old mother who is charged with a count each of rape and assault causing actual bodily harm.
It is alleged that between January 1 and July 5, 2016 at Nasinu the woman had sexual relations with her 14-year -old daughter. The mother also allegedly assaulted the daughter causing actual bodily harm. Police Prosecutor Corporal Pauliasi Lutunauga objected to bail on the grounds that it was an indictable offense and that the case should be transferred to High Court. The charges were read out in the i-Taukei language which the accused understood and pleaded not guilty to. The mattert has been adjourned to July 29 and will be heard at the High Court in Suva.
