Man pleads guilty to five driv­ing charges

Mat­ter ad­journed to Au­gust 19 for sen­tenc­ing

A29-year-old will be sen­tenced next month by the Suva Mag­is­trates Court af­ter plead­ing guilty to five driv­ing charges. Peni Vu­nikeba ap­peared be­fore Mag­is­trate Jioji Bo­sei­waqa has granted him a fresh bail of $500. Vu­nikeba is charged with a count each of: dan­ger­ous driv­ing drunk and drive driv­ing mo­tor ve­hi­cle with­out driv­ers li­cence driv­ing un­reg­is­tered mo tor ve­hi­cle driv­ing mo­tor ve­hi­cle in con­tra­ven­tion of third party.

On July 16 Vu­nikeba al­legedly drove a ve­hi­cle along Suva Street head­ing to­wards High Street when he lost con­trol of the ve­hi­cle and col­lided into a post sit­u­ated on the foot­path. When Po­lice ques­tioned him he smelt of liquor and when the of­fi­cer checked Vu­nikeba he was over the le­gal limit. Vu­nikeba pleaded guilty to all the counts. The mat­ter has been ad­journed to Au­gust 19 for sen­tenc­ing.
