5-star resort recognises local potential

- RACHNA LAL Feedback: rachnal@fijisun.com.fj

Historically, any resort familiarisations (famils) have been organised generally for foreign journalists and/or travel writers. So it was indeed a welcome sign to have FNP Fowned Inter Continental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa organising a famil for the local media. The whole purpose was to get local journalists to write about their experience at the Inter Continental Fiji creating awareness for the local market. This step underscores an important point – which is that local resorts are now noting the important role of locals. There was a time when tourists used to be given much higher priority than locals when staying at resorts.

But just like technological evolution, travel pattern have also changed. We now have many more locals travelling and staying in resorts locally – whether it be for work purpose or a relaxing family weekend getaway. And resorts have started recognising this fact and thus such famils can be very advantageous for the properties.

After all, it is usually the locals who help fill up the room inventory during the tourism arrival downtimes.

But in order to make a decision, a local must first be aware about the resort as well as know what they are getting into.

Inter Continental Fiji of course is not the only resort around but it does have its up sides of staying there.

Staying at the Inter Continental Fiji Golf Resort & Spa may not be the cheapest option around, but it is truly value for money. And being owned by the Fiji National Provident Fund, you can be rest assured the profits will be included in your superannuation savings in the form of annual interest rate. It is indeed heartwarming to see that resorts such as Inter Continental are not ignoring the local potential.
