Po­lice ar­rest al­leged fake doc­tor

Aman is in Po­lice cus­tody for al­legedly op­er­at­ing as a fake doc­tor. Po­lice spokesper­son Ana Naisoro yes­ter­day con­firmed his ar­rest.

Fiji Med­i­cal and Den­tal Sec­re­tar­iat’s Dharmesh Prasad said they re­ceived a com­plaint on Mon­day. “The pa­tient had seen the fake doc­tor yes­ter­day and we sought the help of the Po­lice and the Crim­i­nal In­ves­ti­ga­tions Depart­ment (CID) and we were able to ap­pre­hend the fake doc­tor. “The man used to go from house to house charg­ing peo­ple $75 per visit. Peo­ple came from the vil­lage to get his help.

“He al­leged he got his qual­i­fi­ca­tions from Is­rael and he had med­i­cal equip­ment that could de­tect any ill­ness which was all false.” Mr Prasad said for car­dio med­i­ca­tion the man was pre­scrib­ing cough mix­ture which is also false. “The pa­tient who was checked by the fake doc­tor came to my of­fice and re­ported the mat­ter on Mon­day,” he said. “The pa­tient was sus­pi­cious of the way the man checked peo­ple and used the stetho­scope that did not add up. “The pa­tient came to my of­fice want­ing in­for­ma­tion on the doc­tor un­der the name of Siti Waqa.” He said there was no one named Siti Waqa who was reg­is­tered.
